As the Commander of the Rochester American Legion Post 7 one of my goals this year was to bring the community together to pay tribute to all those who have defended and who are currently defending our great country and specifically to pay tribute to all those who have paid the greatest sacrifice doing so. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that I announce that Post 7 is sponsoring the Indoor Cost of Freedom Tribute.

The American Veterans Traveling Tribute and Traveling Wall Indoor Cost of Freedom Tribute will visit the Rochester American Legion Post 7 from 7 p.m. on Oct. 2 until 3 p.m. Oct. 6; with viewing available 24 hours a day. The mission of the project is to travel the nation to honor, respect, and remember men and women who served and to pay specific tribute to those who gave all in that service.

The AVTT presents several Cost of Freedom memorials and exhibits with its centerpiece being the Traveling Wall, a 50-percent scale version of the Viet Nam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C.

The Indoor Cost of Freedom Tribute is a great, one of a kind indoor tribute, depicting Honor, Respect and Remembrance of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country. Paying respect to veterans, active duty military, police officers and firefighters; anyone whose daily job is to put themselves in harm’s way in order to protect and defend our way of life in locations around the world or here on the home front.

Please join myself and all the officers of Post 7 on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. for the opening ceremony. In addition to several guest speakers there will be performances from the Spaulding High School music department and a drill presentation from the Spaulding JROTC.

Veterans and active members of America’s armed services travel great distances and make great sacrifices to preserve and protect our freedom and liberty. How far will you travel to honor their contribution?

- Robert Talbot

Commander, Rochester American Legion Post 7
