To the Editor:
Ask most people what a county commissioner does, and you may get a blank look. That is not the public’s fault. County government has done a poor job explaining itself—even though it manages millions of taxpayer dollars and services that matter to our communities.
The commissioners oversee Riverside Rest Home, the House of Corrections, the Sheriff’s Office, the Registry of Deeds, and other county operations. This is not a ceremonial office. It requires someone willing to show up, dig into the details, ask questions, and tell the public what is happening.
That is why I am running for Strafford County Commissioner in District 1. As a small-business owner, farmer, and Rochester city councilor, I know decisions made around a government table have real consequences. I also know the best decisions begin by listening to the people directly affected.
I will visit county departments, speak with employees and residents, examine spending, and explain county decisions in plain language. When something works, I will support it. When it does not, I will ask why and push for a solution.
On September 8, I am asking Republican voters throughout District 1 for their vote. I am ready to show up and work.
